"Bye-bye, Paw-Paw"

“Bye, Bye, Paw-Paw

The richness a grandchild brings

Into a granddad’s heart,

Can only be talked about

To those who’ve been a part;

Of our own special group

This relationship has been known.

For all outside it have no care,

Our pictures make them groan!

They cannot know the great delight,

Of the sparkles in the eyes

When that sweet child sees Paw-Paw’s face,

And to his arms he flies!

They haven’t known, through softened heart,

By the care of raising our brood,

How special is a ride in a pickup truck,

To feast on some fast food!

Until they have their children’s child,

With wobbly legs take that stand,

They cannot comprehend that prefix sweet,

That makes of “child”, a “grand”!

And this sorrow, may you never face,

For it will wrench your heart;

That worst of days when your little best friend,

And you do have to part!

It will take your joy, your prospect of fun,

And leave all else bland,

When, “Bye-Bye Paw-Paw” is all that’s left,

As he leaves for a distant land!

In the realm of the Spirit,

What can compare with this, my worse loss?

It comes to me as I pray,

It’s the fellowship of Jesus’ cross!

So help me bear my wounded soul,

To transport it if I can,

To the place of only comfort sweet,

Administered by the nail pierced hand!
